Celebrating the life of
Katherine Quinn Naismith
February 27, 1962 - March 23, 2012
Katherine Quinn Naismith
Savannah- Katherine Quinn Naismith Lunday, Witten passed away on March 23rd, 2012 at Hospice House. She was the daughter of Jane Samford Naismith and the late Donald Edward Naismith.
She was born in Savannah and graduated from Savannah Country Day School in 1980, where she was a varsity cheerleader, member of the Troubadours chorus and trio. She was a member of Quis Qui Sorority.
At High Harbour summer camp in Clayton, Georgia, where she was a camper and counselor for many years, she was introduced to gymnastics, which became a lifelong interest. While in high school, she studied gymnastics at Armstrong University and at Marianne Rody's Gymnastic School. During this period she taught at the YMCA and the JEA. She also studied ballet with Lillian O'Donovan. She owned her first horse at 13 and continued with her love of horses for the rest of her life.
She was a communicant of St. Thomas Episcopal Church on Isle of Hope where she sang in the youth choir and was an active member of the EYC.
Katherine attended Auburn University where she was a member of ADPi Sorority, a Pi K A "little sister" and a member and choreographer of the prestigious Tiger Paws, who performed gymnastic dance routines at Auburn basketball games. After college and marriage she continued to live in Auburn where she owned and operated an exercise-wear shop, taught aerobics and trained instructors at Kaz Gym, and co-owned and operated a screen printing business.
She was forced to give up her athletic activities as her movement disorder overtook her lifestyle---but not her spirit. Ten years ago she moved to Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, where she enjoyed off-shore fishing, jet skiing, horseback riding and volunteering for animal shelters. She was a lifelong supporter of Auburn University and animal rescue agencies. Katherine had a big heart and loved life, her friends and family.
She is survived, in addition to her mother, by her sister, Donna Naismith Justice, her brother-in-law, John William Justice, III and her two nephews, John William Justice, IV and Samford Watlington Justice, an aunt, Ann Naismith Groover, an uncle, James Alfred Naismith and many cousins. The family will always be grateful to her dear friend since kindergarten, Mary Shuman Haley Middleton who has been her caregiver throughout her three-year illness.
Remembrances may be given in her name to St. Joseph/Candler Foundations, Movement Disorder Program, 5356 Reynolds St., Suite 400, Savannah, GA 31405 or Hospice House of Savannah, PO Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.
Memorial services for Katherine will be held dockside at 21 Bluff Drive at 4:00 pm on Monday, March 26th, followed by visitation with the family.

Dear grieving family, My wife and I are very sorry for your tremendous loss and would like to express our condolences to the entire family. We cannot imagine the great pain and sorrow you are experiencing during this most difficult time. When we lose someone we love so dearly, we are left with a very strong desire to see that person again. It's wonderful to know that God has promised we will see our loved ones who have fallen asleep in death. John chapter 5 verses 28 and 29 gives this wonderful reassurance: 'Do not marvel at this because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life.' What a marvelous hope! Once again we wish to express our condolences to the family. And although we cannot erase the pain and sorrow you are feeling, it is our hope that this can give you a small measure of comfort.
